The mission of 4G Americas is to promote, facilitate and advocate for the deployment of the 3GPP family of mobile broadband technologies throughout the ecosystem – including networks, services, applications and wirelessly connected devices – in the Americas. 4G Americas is committed to working with government agencies, regulatory bodies, technical standards organizations and other global wireless organizations in order to promote truly seamless interoperability and convergence. These relationships include participation as a Market Representation Partner in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), membership in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) of the Organization of American States, collaborative working agreements with the GSMA, UMTS Forum, Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance (NGMN), the Centro de Investigación de las Telecomunicaciones (CINTEL) in Colombia, the Cámara de Empresas de Servicios de Telecomunicaciones (CASETEL) in Venezuela, Association of Telecommunications Enterprises of the Andean Community (ASETA) and AHCIET, the Ibero-American Association of Research Centers and Telecommunication Enterprises. The NGMN Alliance was founded by leading international mobile network operators in 2006. Its goal is to ensure that the standards for next generation network infrastructure, service platforms and devices will meet the requirements of operators and, ultimately, will satisfy end user demand and expectations.
The objective of the initial phase of NGMN with working groups on Technology, Spectrum, IPR, Ecosystem, and Trials was to enable the launch of commercial services in 2010.
After having successfully reached this milestone, the NGMN Alliance now addresses the challenges of network deployment, operations, and interworking. Furthermore, the NGMN Alliance will drive and guide the development of all future mobile broadband technology enhancements focusing on LTE & EPC and its evolution. The targets of this work programme are supported by the strong and well-established partnership of worldwide leading operators, vendors, and successful co-operations with other industry organisations.
